About

The Communications Tool Kit is designed to assist the College’s departments, centers and programs with their communication needs. Items in the kit include tips, answers to frequently asked questions, forms, templates, links to University guidelines, policies and other communication tools.

 

Communications and External Relations

The Communications Office of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is responsible for strategic communications for the College. The team collaborates and consults with College departments, centers and programs on communications materials, plans, and interactions with news media.

Additionally, The College external relations and events manager facilitates external relations, including alumni relations and promotion of CLAS events, including consultation with departments, centers and programs on external relations and events.

Communications Tool Kit

Events

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences hosts hundreds of community and campus events each year as a way of sharing knowledge and building community. Planning and marketing events takes time and attention to details. These tools can help you host a successful event that will accomplish your goals.

News & Media

Sharing our stories is important for us to build connections and knowledge. We do this by thinking about the impact of our work on others and the best ways to communicate those connections. Each story is unique, yet the steps we take to tell our stories follow a common path, which can be guided by these tools.

Social Media & Web

Web resources provide an important and accessible way for us to share news and other information. Experience shows that some methods are better than others when communicating this way. We also must adhere to university guidelines and policies, and legal requirements. These tools help us to do so.

Publications

The College publishes the print magazine Exchange, an online magazine, department newsletters and brochures and other print materials. Materials at the department, program and center level must receive approval from the unit leader and the College Communications Director, for SACS and branding compliance.

Photos & Videos

Telling our stories includes more than words. Photographs and videos help us communicate visually. Using photographs and videos to tell our stories involves understanding how to create and use visual elements effectively. This also encompasses information about the relevant laws and guidelines.

Design & Templates

The College has design templates for use by the College’s academic units, including Powerpoint presentations, Zoom and WebEx backgrounds, informational handout templates and other materials. UNC Charlotte and the College also have branding guidelines, policies and best practices to follow.
